Ignore The CV
When's the last time you picked up a CV or resume from a job applicant that told you stuff that you really want
to know?
Chances are that you've never yet seen an accurate CV, because most people either lie or exaggerate their
skills, experience and their personality.
How many people say that they are miserable and antisocial? None. Yet many people are that or worse, but once
you've hired them, it's too late.
What use is 5 years experience? Is it any better than 12 months experience if the person is actually no good at
their job?
What about qualifiactions? Are they absolutely necessary in every case, or would personality and the ability to
the job be better?
How about attitude? CV's rarely express the true attitude of a person - that's something that you can only
discover by getting to know them, or getting them to open up a bit.
Motivation's another area where the CV or resume can't help - all it is when you think about it, is a
piece of self-penned PR designed to paint the bestpossible picture.
Scratch the surface of most CV's and you'll find a ton of discrepancies in almost every department.
There are better ways of recruiting. They are old fashioned and require real skill, not word search on some
fancy database.
