Recruitment Telesales vs Passive Recruitment

If you have been a line manager, or responsible for recruiting personnel for any length of time, you already know the drill.

Mondays are worst, especially after a public holiday. January is worst.

Your phone will ring constantly from a long line of recruiters asking whether you have any vacancies that they can help you with.

Unfortunately, that's the recruitment industry for you.

In order to get your business, a recruitment company needs to sell the service to you. They know that the chances are that you'll never knock on their door, so they do the only thing they can - use the telephone.

The problem is that there are so many of them. It's not uncommon these days, for managers to receive twenty or more calls from recruiters trying to sell their services.

Half of those are probably just calling to introduce themselves as the person who's just "taken over your account", not there ever was an account, it's just that they are the new boy or girl and for some reason, you're on their canvassing list.

If it's not that, then there's the problem of all the unsolicited CV's making their way to your in-box!

And of course, all of those need a follow-up call, just to make sure you received it from them first.

The recruitment industry just operates like that and until somebody passes a law to prevent unsolicited calls to businesses, it will continue, just as it has since the 1970's when the UK recruitment industry started to take off.

A Passive Recruitment Service

As a recruitment business owner, I never liked the fact that my consultants had to come in each day and hit the phones to bring in business.

To me, it seemed like an unwelcome intrusion into people's lives. I also felt that it was a bit degrading for a mature individual to have to call people up out of the blue and ask for work.

But that's just me. The thousands of recruiters out there doing just that get far more recruitment assignments that I do.

What they don't get of course, is the exclusive, interesting vacancies from motivated managers who want to work with one individual who they consider to be a part of their own team.

That only comes if you offer a passive recruitment service.

What's passive?

Well, for one thing, I never make sales canvassing calls to companies.

I never send unsolicited CV's to potential clients.

The only way you'll experience the difference to my freelance recruitment service and that of the agency world is to call me.

My clients prefer this approach, because they can get on with their jobs undisturbed, yet still know that when they need to recruit new team members, I'm only a phone call away.

100% of my clients have my mobile number stored in their own mobiles and can contact me out of hours.

Granted, there aren't many of them, but that's true of all exclusive services. I don't go for volume, I prefer working with just a very few discerning clients who appreciate the time and money I save them.

They tell me they enjoy the informality of the approach. They enjoy the occasional drink or meal with me. I'm considered part of their team.

To experience a more personal, friendly and efficient recruitment service, no matter what the discipline or industry type, please call me on 01564 824554 or 07800 790427.
