Look at sites like jobserve, jobsite,
Monster and the like and you'll see just about
every recruitment agency you could name, except
this one.
There's a good reason for that too.
If all of the other agents are there, it
means they are all fishing in the same
candidate pool.
That means if you engage more than one
recruiter, all you're going to get is a pile of
duplicated CVs and the headache of fee
disputes.

Many of the agencies subscribe to CV databases on these
sites, but you have to ask yourself, especially now, what type
of person loads their CV to a job site in the first place, for
all to see?
Do you think these are the best candidates? Would you go
about finding your next job by doing that?
My approach is all about finding the candidates who aren't
currently looking for a job.
Here's the typical profile I look for:
- Happy in current job
- No threat of redundancy
- Never reads job boards
- Very good at what he or she does
- Probably unable to progress much further with current
employer
- Could be tempted out if the right opportunity comes
along
That type of person is a better prospect than those who
throw their CV online without thought. They are also more
loyal.
My competitors don't know how to reach these people because
they are stuck in the rut of a soon-to-be-obsolete business
model.
As a manager, assuming you are happy in your job
at the moment, where is the first place you'd look online, if
you just wanted to learn what could be out there for
you?
If the answer is Jobserve or similar, good luck! Just take a
look at the quality of those advertisements and ask yourself if
you really want to dive into that particular cesspool.
Frightening isn't it? The quality of the advertisements says
a lot about the people doing the recruiting. And, look closely
and you'll see that they are all advertising the same jobs over
and over again.
Your choices as a hiring manager are:
- Do it yourself
- Hire a recruitment agency and take pot-luck
- Hire a professional freelance recruiter
